Learners take part in interschool matches and galas scheduled according to the league’s annual sports calendar.
The sports offered include:
Soccer, Cricket, Athletics, Cross-country, Netball, Swimming, and Chess.
INTERHOUSE SPORT
To promote school spirit and friendly competition, Orion College hosts exciting interhouse events, including our much-anticipated interhouse gala and athletics day.
Learners are grouped into one of three houses: Gladiators, Titans, and Spartans.
House Captains are selected from our Grade 7 and FET learners at the beginning of each year, taking on the responsibility of leading their teams with pride and enthusiasm.
CULTURE AT ORION COLLEGE
Nurturing Cultural Excellence
Orion College has a proud and ever-growing cultural tradition. We recognize the importance of developing our learners’ talents beyond the academic sphere, and we are committed to providing opportunities for creativity and self-expression.
In 2025, we proudly introduced Dramatic Arts as part of our FET subject offering, creating space for our learners to explore and refine their dramatic talents. Our commitment to the arts is also reflected in our active participation in the Randfontein Arts and Culture Association (RACA) Eisteddfod each year. Here, our learners shine in a wide range of categories, including visual arts, drama, dance, singing, and both group and individual performances.
In 2024, Orion College was honoured with the RACA Adjudicator’s Special Award, recognizing our school as the one that truly went above and beyond in arts and culture. Our cultural calendar also features an annual concert, an exciting event where each class takes the stage to perform in a collaborative school production — written, produced, and proudly performed by our learners and staff.
