Foundation Phase
Our Foundation Phase provides a nurturing environment focused on well-being, growth, and enjoyment. Under the leadership of Mrs. Liliana Vasconcelos, a dynamic team of creative, compassionate, and experienced Foundation Phase teachers ensures that each child receives the highest level of support. With class sizes limited to a maximum of 12 learners, we offer personalized, individual attention tailored to each of our unique learners’ needs.
Early intervention is a cornerstone of our philosophy at Orion College. As such, therapy and intervention are most intensive during the Foundation Phase. Each learner is linked to an Educational Psychologist and receives weekly individual Occupational Therapy (OT) and Speech and Language Therapy (ST), along with weekly group OT/ST sessions. From Grade 2 onwards, learners identified as requiring additional remedial support in literacy or numeracy receive targeted intervention.
Beyond academic and therapeutic support, our Foundation Phase learners engage in a range of enriching extracurricular and enrichment activities
These include dynamic music and dance sessions led by Bianca from b-Moved, as well as monthly therapeutic horse-riding sessions at The Earth Centre.

With regular enrichment and fun days integrated into our school calendar, there is always something exciting for our learners to look forward to. These experiences are essential to our holistic approach to education, fostering confidence, engagement, and overall development.
See the Sports and Culture section for more information on what is available.
Intermediate Phase
Our Intermediate Phase provides a supportive and structured environment that fosters independence, personal responsibility and leadership. Led by Ms. Sandy Wouda, a dedicated team of experienced subject specialists ensures that each learner receives personalized guidance, attention and support tailored to their individual needs. With class sizes limited to a maximum of 12 learners, we maintain a focused, individualized approach to teaching.
At Orion College, we believe that ongoing intervention is key to academic progress and success. Each learner remains linked to an Educational Psychologist and continues to receive weekly individual Occupational Therapy (OT) and Speech and Language Therapy (ST). Additionally, remedial therapy is available for students requiring targeted intervention in core subjects such as English, Mathematics, and Afrikaans. Beyond academic and therapeutic support, our Intermediate Phase learners participate in a diverse range of extra-curricular and enrichment activities, including both sports and cultural programs.
From Grades 4 to 6, students attend weekly music and dance sessions led by the dynamic Bianca from b-Moved.

From Grade 7, OT and ST interventions are replaced with specialized workshops designed to equip learners with essential skills for a smooth transition to High School in Grade 8. With regular enrichment and fun days woven into our school calendar, there is always something to anticipate and to look forward to, fostering participation, engagement and creativity.
